McKenzie's big game bests Wichita in 5-1 Allen win

Jim McKenzie had two goals and one assist to lead the Allen Americans to a 5-1 victory over the Wichita Thunder.McKenzie found the back of the net 3:24 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Allen and again while on the power play 2:00 into the third to make the score 5-1 Allen.
After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Wichita faces elimination next time out.
Allen was led by goalie Aaron Dell, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Dell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.46 entering the contest.
Allen also got points from Tyler Ludwig, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Todd Robinson, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Allen also got a goal from Jamie Schaafsma as well. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Mike Berube, Anthony Maiani, Jason Deitsch, and Darryl Bootland, who each chipped in one.
The Thunder managed to stay out of the box for the most part, finishing with only one major for five minutes in penalty time.
Wichita was led by Andrew Martens, who scored the team's only goal. Martens scored on the power play 10:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita. The Thunder had gotten the advantage when the Americans' Kale Kerbashian was sent off for boarding. Kevin Young picked up the assist.
Allen totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Wichita's starting goalie, Torrie Jung, made 11 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Kevin Regan, who stopped six shots. The Thunder registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
