Allen shrugs off penalties, upends Wichita, 2-1

The Allen Americans, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Wichita Thunder's power play opportunities and emerged with a 2-1 victory.
The Americans put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita to score on any of its seven power plays. By firing 25 shots on goal, Allen exceeded the 21.3 shots it averages per game this year.
The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Allen power plays. Wichita's offense operated below it season average. The Thunder average 3.5 goals per game. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Neil Trimm, Andrew Martens and Les Reaney took 13 of the team's 23 shots.
More assists for Wichita came via Ian Lowe, who had one.
Steve Silverthorn made 22 saves for the Americans on 23 shots. Allen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Grant Rollheiser recorded 23 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
