Quad City beats Denver 7-1 as Lang gets hat trick

A hat trick by Mickey Lang was the highlight in Mallards' 7-1 win against the Denver Cutthroats.Lang notched his first tally 10:51 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:46 into the first and at 7:57 into the second.
The Quad City Mallards were led by goalie John Murray, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Murray will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.82.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:56 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.
Quad City was often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and four majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. The Mallards had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Quad City bested its season scoring average. The Mallards have scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The 46 shots that Quad City put on net surpassed the Mallards' average of 26.0 shots per game this season.

Denver racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and four majors for 56 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Cutthroats had been spending in the box. Denver put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.4 it averages per game.
The Cutthroats were led by A.J. Gale, who scored the team's only goal. Gale scored on the power play 10:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Denver. Denver had gotten the advantage when Quad City's Duffy was sent off for hooking. Chris Greene provided the assist.
The Mallards registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. For Quad City, Mitch McColm was ejected from the game. Kieran Millan recorded 39 saves for the Cutthroats. Denver registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Cutthroats ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mario Boilard was ejected from the game.
