Quad City uses shootout to best Missouri, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Bob Preece scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Quad City Mallards picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Missouri Mavericks.The shootout lasted for 16 attempts between the teams. Missouri got a shootout goal from Sebastien Thinel. Quad City also got a shootout goal from Obi Aduba.
The Mallards saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Quad City made the score 3-1 on a goal by Mike Hellyer at 8:11 in the third period. The Mavericks evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brandon Smith at 19:59 in the third period.
The Mallards' offense rang up 38 shots on Missouri's net.
Quad City also got a goal from Mike Stinziani as well. More assists for Quad City came via Mickey Lang, who had two and Darren McMillan, Brett Robinson, and Aduba, who contributed one a piece.
With 33 shots on target during the contest, the Mavericks exceeded the 24.2 shots they average per game this year.
Missouri was led by Ryan Jardine, who tallied one goal and one assist. Jardine scored 13:43 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Quad City. John-Scott Dickson assisted on the tally. Dave Pszenyczny also scored for Missouri. In addition, Missouri received assists from David Simoes, Andrew Courtney, and Thinel, who each chipped in one.
Neil Conway rejected 30 shots on goal for Quad City. The Mallards totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Mike Clemente recorded 34 saves for the Mavericks. Missouri totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
