Denver uses shootout to best Rapid City, 2-1 (3-0 SO)

Jamie MacQueen netted the deciding goal for the Denver Cutthroats in the shootout as Cutthroats prevailed over Rapid City, 2-1 (3-0 SO).The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Denver also got shootout goals from MacQueen and Luke Fulghum.
The Cutthroats came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Denver trailed 1-0 after a goal by Rapid City's Scott Brannon at 4:22 in the second period. The Cutthroats knotted things up at 1-1 on a power play goal by Gabriel Beaupre at 5:55 in the third period.
Rapid City was stymied by Denver netminder Kieran Millan, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. Millan certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.3 entering the contest.
The Cutthroats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Rapid City power plays. Denver put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.3 it averages per game.
In addition, Denver received assists from Brad Smyth and Brett Lutes, who each chipped in one.
The Rapid City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Rapid City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Scott Wray, Riley Weselowski and Brannon took 20 of the team's 34 shots.
More assists for Rapid City came via Rusty Masters and Jeff Lee, who contributed one a piece.
The Cutthroats totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Rapid City's Danny Battochio stopped 34 shots out of the 35 that he faced.
