Quad City uses shootout to best Rapid City, 3-2 (3-0 SO)

Obi Aduba scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Quad City Mallards picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (3-0 SO) win over Rapid City.The shootout lasted for seven attempts between the teams. Quad City also got shootout goals from Aduba and Mickey Lang.
The Mallards managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Quad City ended up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The 36 shots that the Mallards put on net surpassed Quad City's average of 28.4 shots per game this season.
The Mallards were led by Mike Hellyer, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hellyer scored 7:03 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Quad City. Lang picked up the assist. Quad City also got a goal from Bob Preece as well. In addition, Quad City received assists from Mitch McColm and Jeremy Boyer, who each chipped in one.
Rapid City was helped by Damian Surma, who finished with one goal. Surma scored 13:51 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Michael Couch provided the assist. Jared Brown also scored for Rapid City. More assists for Rapid City came via Scott Wray, who had one and Kyle Peto, who had two.
John Murray rejected 23 shots on goal for Quad City. The Mallards registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Neil Conway recorded 33 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities.
