Allen completes comeback, beats Quad City, 3-2
Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Allen Americans battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Quad City Mallards.
Allen never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Americans was down 2-0 after a goal by Quad City's Jeremy Boyer at 6:45 in the second period. Allen knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Trevor Ludwig at 14:23 in the second period. The Americans netted the game winner on the power play at 1:59 in the third period on a goal by Ludwig.
Allen's penalty kill excelled, as the Americans gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.
Allen stifled the Mallards' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Americans forced Quad City goalie Joe Palmer to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Allen was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time.
The Americans were helped by Scotty Howes, who tallied one goal. Allen also got a goal from Kip Brennan as well. In addition, Allen received assists from Drew Daniels, Tyler Ludwig, Brett Skinner, Nino Musitelli, Anthony Maiani, and Ryley Grantham, who each chipped in one.
The Mallards' offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.9 shots per game they average.
Obi Aduba also scored for Quad City. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Jared Lavender, Mickey Lang, Shayne Toporowski, and Mike Hellyer, who contributed one a piece.
Aaron Dell made 33 saves for Allen on 35 shots. The Americans registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Palmer recorded 29 saves for Quad City. The Mallards ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
