Jorge Alvarez returns to El Paso for his second season as Manager of the Diablos.  The native Dominican began his professional career in 1987 when he signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers and has extensive experience as a professional with 23 seasons and almost 2,000 games played as a designated hitter, infielder, and outfielder.  Alvarez was later signed by the Marlins in 1994, and granted free agency in 1995.  He then began his career in independent baseball, spanning 16 seasons and 1.225 games.  Alvarez joined the American Association and the Diablos in 2006 where he stayed until 2009, which he split with the Shreveport-Bossier Captains.  Coming into El Paso, Alvarez made an immediate impact hitting .330 and was named DH of the year for the American Association and was the only El Paso player to make the Can-Am/American Association All-Star Team.  In 2007, he was again named DH of the year and the American Association All-Star MVP.  Alvarez holds a career stat line of .314/.365/.473 with 171 home runs, and 1,085 RBIs.
