Jones is a catcher that has a vast knowledge of baseball, and can demonstrate consistency that creates success for himself as well as his teammates. In his junior season with the Washington State Cougars, Jones hit .213 with 17 RBI and six stolen bases in 49 games (43 starts).
In his sophomore season, Jones hit .276, hitting a home run while driving in 11 runs in 38 games (35 starts). Jones also hit well in his freshman season, working with a .303 average, while driving in 20 runs in 36 games.
Before coming to Washington State, Jones starred at Mountain View High School (Vancouver, Washington). There, Jones was named a member of the First Team for the Great St. Helens Division, while also being named Second Team All-State.
