After completing his Junior year at Bellevue University, Maxx earned first team all-MCAC honors. He appeared in seven games on the season, pitching 48.1 innings while striking out 56 batters. Maxx compiled a 5–1 recorded with a 2.98 ERA. He was named the NAIA and MCAC Pitcher of the Week (April 26) after recording a complete-game shutout over No. 17 York, allowing one hit while striking out eight in seven innings. Maxx also earned MCAC Scholar-Athlete honors.
In 2009, while at Southern Ct State University, in 10 games Maxx compiled a 2-4 record with a 5.33 ERA. He recorded one complete game shutout and one save while striking out 39 batters in 52 innings pitched.
Out of high school, Maxx appeared in four games for the UCONN Huskies during the 2008 season. Maxx led the team with a 1.98 ERA while striking out 12 batters in 13 innings pitched. He made his collegiate debut against Michigan State and didn’t allow a run in two innings of work. He struck out a season-high 5 batters in 4 scoreless innings of relief against Ohio State. And he allowed only one earned run and fanned 4 in 4 innings of relief against Georgetown.
Maxx earned all-state honors at Fairfield Warde High School (Ct) and won the team’s Gold Glove award as a junior. He served as team captain as a senior where he also played varsity football and basketball.
