McCormick is a multi-talented junior out of Valparaiso who can pitch and handle the middle infield as well. As a freshman in 2008, McCormick started 40 games and was Valpo's second leading base steale. During his second year with the Crusaders, McCormick started 44 games and became the team's top base stealer with 14. In seven appearances during the 2009 season he proved to be almost unhittable while allowing one unearned run and holding opponents to a .061 average. Along with Valpo teammate Steve Godawa, McCormick earned academic recognition as a Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Roll member in 2009. This season, he started 41 games in the field and added 7 wins on the mound with 67.1 innings.
