Stayton Thomas was acquired by the Aviators October 2, 2013 to complete an earlier trade that sent Trevor Harden to Lincoln of the American Association. Thomas was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 43rd round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Texas. The right-hander split time between the Gulf Coast League Rays (rookie) and the Hudson Valley Renegades (short season, class-A) in 2011 and recorded a 3-0 record in one start and 18 appearances. Through 32 innings, Thomas struck out 20 batters and walked only 10. His ERA at the end of 2011 was 1.69. Thomas pitched for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (full season, class-A), going 1-4 in 39 appearances out of the bullpen and recorded a 3.62 ERA. In 2013, Thomas began his independant baseball career with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association. He appeared in 30 games (one start) and collected a 2-4 record with a 4.94 ERA.
