Although Collin Manning was back on the mound for Holy Cross in 2014, he missed the 2013 baseball season due to injury. A year earlier, as a freshman, Manning made 13 appearances, all in relief, and posted a 3.22 ERA, to rank fourth on the team. He struck out 13 batters, allowed no runs in seven appearances, and no hits four times. Manning pitched a season-high four innings against Army, striking out five.Manning played two years of varsity baseball as a catcher at Charlotte Catholic H.S. in North Carolina, and captained the team in his junior and senior years. He won the team MVP award as a junior and the Best Defensive Player award as a senior as well as being named first team All-Mega 7 Conference during both his junior and senior years. Manning was named first team All-South by the Charlotte Sports Report as a junior, and set a North Carolina high school record for most consecutive shutouts as a senior, finishing his high school career with a .428 batting average and 59 RBIs.
