As a freshman in 2013, Gage Griffin made four relief appearances on the mound for Franklin Pierce, logging 4.2 innings. In his collegiate debut, against Adelphi University, Griffin took over with one out and the bases empty in the seventh, walked one batter, got the next to ground out and had another reach via error before being relieved and charged with no runs. In the second game of a doubleheader against Saint Michael's, Griffin pitched a scoreless, hitless eighth inning, walked one, struck out two and threw a wild pitch.
At Plainfield High School in Connecticut, he was an All-Conference selection as a senior. Griffin played at the club level for the Groton Wildcats in 2011, when he was a Rawlings Futures Team selection. He also played basketball and football at Plainfield.
Holtz picked up his first career win, not allowing a hit over 1.1 innings at La Salle, worked a perfect inning of relief against Princeton, struck out one batter during a perfect inning at Lehigh, extended his hitless streak with 2.2 innings of perfect relief at Cornell, and held Columbia to one run over 3.0 innings, striking out two.As a four-year letter winner in both baseball and football in high school, Holtz was Varsity captain of the baseball team for three seasons, compiling an enviable 26-9 record. Holtz earned All-Conference honors in both sports while being named Academic All-State in football in 2011.
