After three years of varsity baseball at Commack High School in Commack, N.Y., Nick Berger started at Northeastern in the fall of 2011. Berger appeared in 15 games for the Huskies as a freshman, starting eight of those. He earned his first win of his career against the Georgetown Hoyas on March 6, 2012. Batters hit .293 off of Berger, including 21 extra base hits out of 67 hits allowed. He had a 5.31 ERA in his appearances in his freshman year. Berger saw a huge improvement between his first and second seasons. His ERA lowered to 3.56 in more innings as a full-time starter for Northeastern. Out of 14 starts, Berger went the distance in four of them, and he shut out his opponents on two occasions. The week of February 8, 2013, Berger was named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for his performance against UT Arlington, in which he gave up no runs on five hits in seven innings to lead his team to a 4-0 win. Berger’s junior season was his best of his three years with the Huskies. Berger went X-X with an ERA of 3.83 in 15 starts and 15 appearances.
