The sure-handed Barnes got his feet wet with the Sun Devils during his freshman year, collecting seven hits in 17 at-bats in his first Division I action. This spring he is hitting .259 with one big fly and 22 batted in as of May 23. Last summer, Barnes hit .267 with four home runs and 19 RBIs for the Anchorage Bucs. A middle infielder in high school, Barnes played primarily at catcher and was named the top defensive catcher in the league by Perfect Game. His cousin is former River Bat Nico Gallego (2008) and his uncle is former Major Leaguer Mike Gallego.
