Infielder Brian Bistagne was the lone player the Tucson Toros drafted out of the Golden Baseball League tryouts held in April. Bistagne starred at Lee University, where he was the starting shortstop and earned a Gold Glove as the best defensive player in the NAIA World Series in 2008. After hitting .364 his senior season for Flames, Brian was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Minnesota Twins. Bistagne made his professional debut for the Gulf Coast League Twins, a team managed by Jake Mauer, the older brother of Twins MVP Catcher Joe Mauer.
