Lefthanded Pitcher Matt Lincoln was originally drafted as an 8th Round pick in the 2003 Amateur Draft. Matt pitched in the Los Angeles Angels organization in 2003, splitting the season between the Arizona Rookie League Angels and the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernals of the Midwest League. Lincoln posted a combined 3.00 ERA between the two levels with an imposing 28 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. Lincoln also got a taste of the Golden Baseball League in 2006 when he pitched for the Fullerton Flyers. One of his Flyer teammates Chris Jakubauskus is one of four GBL players to go on to play in the Major Leagues after the GBL, pitching for the Seattle Mariners in 2009 and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010. Lincoln played college baseball at Santa Ana College in California, the same school that produced current San Diego Padres closer and 2009 All-Star Heath Bell.
