Entering his 11th season as coach, Tom has occupied numerous roles in his time with Winnipeg, among them hitting coach, base coach (at both first and third), batting practice pitcher and bullpen catcher, all while spending an increasing amount of time in player procurement.
With Tom as hitting coach, Winnipeg was among the Northern League leaders in all eight of his seasons and helped Goldeyes hitters to a North Division best .294 average in the team's first season in the American Association. In fact, Winnipeg was the only team in the North Division to have a team batting average better then .280.
In 2010, he helped Kevin West win the Northern League batting title. It was the first time a member of the Goldeyes won a batting title since Brian Duva did it in 1998.
