Matt Jernstad begins his sixth season with the ThunderBolts and sixth as a pro in 2013. He missed the majority of 2012 with an arm injury. Entering the 2013 season, he has appeared in 79 games with the team duing his career including 36 starts and is second on the team's all-time strikeout list with 266, trailing only Dustin Williams. Matt signed with the ThunderBolts on August 11, 2008 and pitched in three games down the stretch of that championship season. He has twice been signed by Major League organizations, after the 2009 season by the Chicago White Sox, and in June 2010 by the New York Yankees. He has been in professional baseball since signing with the Joliet Jackhammers in 2008. He pitched for four seasons at Northern Illinois, going 11-10 with a 5.72 ERA in 50 career games (39 starts). Matt attended Oswego High School in Illinois.
