Douglas, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 21st round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft where he spent two seasons playing for Auburn (Low A) and Lansing (A) in the New York Penn League and Midwest League, respectively.

After his release from Toronto, Lowe signed with Amarillo as a free agent in May 2008 and played only one season for the Dillas appearing in 16 games making 14 starts while posting a record of 6-1 striking out 84 batters against just 38 free passes with an earned run average of 3.90, in 87.2 innings of work. Last year as a Shreveport Captain, he made 19 starts finishing with a record 7-11 with going along with a complete game and an earned run average of 5.70, in 102.2 innings.
