Along with fellow SteepleCat Tom Coulombe, Mike LeBel was one of the most productive – and feared – hitters in the University of Rhode Island lineup in 2010. LeBel displayed uncanny power for his size and hit leadoff as well as in the three-hole for the Rams. He hit .338 with a team-leading nine home runs, 34 RBI and 19 stolen bases.
In 2009, LeBel played mostly at third base while starting 54 of URI’s 58 games. He hit .323 with seven home runs and 41 RBI. On the base paths, he stole 17 bases in 24 attempts. For his efforts, LeBel earned a spot on the 2009 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team.
LeBel played high school baseball at Quincy High School. He also played golf and hockey there and captained both the golf and baseball teams as a senior.
