Jonathan Castine arrives in North Adams with a powerful left-handed swing, which is favorable to Joe Wolfe Field’s right field porch. He’s a very patient hitter, which helps him post high on-base and slugging percentages.
Castine took over at first base in 2009 and appeared in 46 games while starting 25 for the Atlantic 10 regular season champions. He hit .345 with eight home runs and 25 RBI. His .646 slugging percentage was the highest on the team and his .440 on-base percentage was second-highest. Castine appeared in 12 games in 2008 and made just one start. That year, he went 4-for-13 (.308) at the plate and drove in three runs.
Castine was a four-year starter and two-year co-captain at Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s Preparatory School in Orchard Lake, Mich. He hit .410 as a senior in 2006 with 34 RBI. That year he was named first team all-state, all-region, all-district and academic all-state.
