Ralph Santana - Profile

The 2013 season will be Ralph's seventh season with Southern Illinois and his sixth as a coach.  This year he will return as hitting coach and third base coach.  In 2008 and 2009, Ralph coached first base as well as infield and base running.  In 2012, Ralph was named Frontier League Coach of the Year.    

He was the starting second baseman in the 2007 Frontier League All-Star Game as he lead the FL with 126 hits. He holds the Miners single season batting record with a .342 average in 2007. Ralph played under Manager Mike Pinto with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association in 2006 and finished third in the league in stolen bases (40). In 2005 he hit .308 and stole 41 bases for the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League.

He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies organization as a free agent in 2004 and spent the year with the Clearwater Threshers, the Phillies Advanced Single-A affiliate.

Prior to joining the Phillies, he played three seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system from 2001-2003. He finished in the top 10 in batting average (.337) in the Pioneer League as a member of the Ogden Raptors in 2001. He was orginally selected by the Brewers in the 42nd round of the 2001 draft out of Lake Sumter (Fla.) Community College. Ralph was born in Orlando, which is where he makes his off-season home.
