This is Blake Helm's first season in the Frontier League. Helm was signed by the ThunderBolts on May 29th, 2013. Helm exceeds the age limit to be competing in the league, but is allowed to play after serving in the military. The league allows players one season for each year they have actively served. Helm served as a firefighter for the U.S. Air Force from 2009-2013.
Helm came to terms with the Schaumburg Boomers in the spring of 2013, but never made the opening day roster.
The Springfield High School graduated last competed in the "Red, White, and Blue" Tour for the US Military All-Star team. His first time playing organized baseball since college.
Helm graduated from Murray State University and in his senior year batted .270 in 37 with an OBP of .326. In 2007 an injury limited Helm to just three games on the diamond. Before transferring to Murray State, he played for Lincoln Land Community College hitting .333 through 23 games in 2006 and .343 with 22 RBI the season before.
