Richard, 28, appeared in 71 games for the Newark Bears of the Canadian-American Association of Independent Baseball in 2012, averaging .294 with 46 runs, 87 hits, 20 extra-base hits and 14 RBIs. Richard also began this season with the Bears, playing in just two games before joining the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
The 5’10”, 180-pound shortstop and second baseman began his career within the Oakland Athletics farm system, playing for their Single-A affiliate the Vancouver Canadians in 2007. Richard played for the Canadians for two seasons, before flip-flopping between the A’s and Chicago White Sox minor league affiliates. The Lake Charles, LA. Native, has reached as high as Double-A with Oakland’s Midland RockHounds and Chicago’s Birmingham Barons, before changing pace to independent baseball in 2011. In three seasons of independent baseball, Richard has managed a .288 average in 121 games.
Richard was originally drafted by the Athletics in the 11th round of the 2007 MLB June Amateur Draft from Prairie View A&M University.
