Smith returns to the Bluefish for his 11th year of professional baseball and ninth in the Atlantic League. He began last season with the Newark Bears, where he appeared in 29 games (19 starts) and compiled nine wins with a 5.86 ERA and 77 strikeouts over 124.1 innings of work. He was then acquired by Bridgeport and posted a 3.60 ERA with one victory in three appearances. Throughout the course of the year, he set career-bests with 10 wins, 19 games started, 129.1 innings pitched, and 80 strikeouts. 

The Kearny, NJ native has amassed 329.2 innings pitched in 130 careers games in the Atlantic League with 226 strikeouts.

Smith was originally signed by the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League in 1998 out of Rutgers University.
