A solid left-handed option for a Monmouth University squad that is in the thick of the Northeast Conference race, southpaw Stephen Frey will join fellow NEC-ers Casey Brown and Dominic Severino in North Adams this summer.
Hailing from Washingtonville, N.Y., Frey has been a reliable bullpen arm for the Hawks this season, posting a team-best five saves entering the final weekend of the regular season. Owning a 1-0 record and a 4.05 ERA, the 6-foot-0 junior has logged a team-high 20 appearances, covering 33.1 innings, all out of the bullpen. During that span, Frey has struck out 22 batters while walking nine.
After making 13 appearances out of the bullpen as a freshman, Frey was thrust into the weekend rotation as a sophomore, appearing in 16 games with nine starts while going 4-2 on the year in 2012. That followed a successful four-year career at Washingtonville High School during which he was twice named an Under Armour All-American and once named a Perfect Game All-American.
The son of Charles and Clare Frey, Stephen is pursing a degree in Health Studies and Physical Education.
