The 21st round selection of San Diego in the 2011 draft, Kometani joins the Beach Bums following two seasons in the system. Last season he played in 24 games combined for the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Midwest – A) and the San Antonio Missions (Texas – AA) hitting .262 with six doubles, a homerun and 11 RBI. In his late-season callup to San Antonio, Kometani went 5-for-9 with a double.
A native of Hawaii, Kometani played his college ball at the University of San Diego (West Coast Conference – NCAA D-I) where he was a teammate of former Beach Bums shortstop, Chris Engell. In 2011, Kometani hit .355 with 22 doubles, four homers and drove in 54, leading the conference in RBI and garnering All-WCC honors. For his college career, he hit .351 with 10 homers and 80 batted in.
