Continuing the rich Rutgers-North Adams pipeline, sophomore outfielder Vinny Zarrillo joins teammate Kyle Driscoll in the Berkshires for the summer of 2013.
After appearing in 41 games with 26 starts as a freshman, Zarrillo has dominated as a sophomore, leading the Scarlet Knights on offense while starting in all but one of Rutgers’ 52 games heading into the BIG EAST Tournament. Zarrillo finished the regular season batting .344 on a team-best 67 hits and contributed 34 runs, a team-best 12 doubles and five triples while driving in 49 by himself.
The Forked River, N.J., native slugged a team-leading .456 on the year and owned a team-high .417 OBP, as well, while going 10-for-12 on the base paths.
A three-year starter at Lacey High School, Zarrillo was ranked by Perfect Game and Rawlings in the top-500 high school recruits in the country despite missing his senior year due to injury. The son of Rick and Lora Zarrillo, Vinny has one brother, Steve (21).
