A 6'0" 215 lb. catcher, from Anthem, Arizona, Real was a previous draft pick in the 48th round by the Atlanta Braves and is currently in his sophomore season at the University of New Mexico. Real was named the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association 5A Div-II Player of the Year in leading Boulder Creek High school to the Northwest Region title. Offensively he hit .402 at the plate as 29 of his team high 45 hits went for extra bases as the slugger led the team in both doubles (15) and home runs (14). Real also had a team high of 48 RBIs, 14 more than his nearest teammate. He also had a team-high 14 stolen bases, in 14 attempts. In his freshman season at New Mexico, he appeared in 41 games and made 36 starts, hitting .271 with 14 runs, 29 RBIs, nine doubles, three home runs, and a slugging percentage of .406.
