The 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and the lone returner from the 2012 roster, Eastern Kentucky junior Bryan Soloman returns to the Berkshires looking to lead the SteepleCats and make further strides as a player and a team representative this summer.
A power threat for the Colonels at Eastern Kentucky, Soloman was named the league’s top rookie back in 2011 before leading the team in home runs as a sophomore. This spring, the Toms River, N.J., native has seen time at first base in addition to his native third base spot. He concluded the regular season batting .290 on 56 hits in 51 appearances, ranking third on the team with 33 RBI and second with six homers. Soloman’s .461 SLG% was also second best among all Colonels.
Soloman broke out with a rookie campaign that saw him bat .310 with nine home runs, a team-best 17 doubles and 40 RBI two years ago. He was one of only two Colonels to start all 57 games in 2011, providing EKU with middle-of-the-lineup power throughout the season and finishing with a .516 slugging percentage en route to being named to the Louisville Slugger All-American Rookie Team.
In high school, Soloman nearly set a national record with a home run in nine consecutive games and was a two-time preseason Under Armour All-American.
The son of Stephen and Claire, Bryan was born Sept. 15, 1991 and is pursuing a degree in sports management.
