One year since URI sophomore Jeff Roy rewrote both the North Adams and NECBL single-season record books as the SteepleCats’ center fielder, newcomer Joe Landi represents the lone Rhody Ram on North Adams’ staff this summer and will hope to emulate Roy’s success in 2013.
Starting off his junior campaign red-hot at the top of the URI lineup, Landi has seen action in the corner outfield spots for the Rams and concluded the regular season batting .269 on 36 hits over a span of 42 games and 36 starts. The Smithfield, R.I., native drove in nine runs on three doubles and posted a .361 on-base percentage, as well.
Landi spent his sophomore summer with the Newark Pilots of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. A First-Team All-PGCBL selection, Landi finished the summer ranked second in the league in stolen bases and was third overall in runs scored (42), numbers that led his Newark club in both respective categories. He also ranked second on his team in hits (51), RBI (35) and slugging percentage (.426) and was third overall with a .329 batting average and a .425 on-base percentage.
A four-year member at Smithfield High, Landi was voted the Most Outstanding Player in 2009 and was an All-State selection in 2010. The son of Brenda and Richard Landi, Joe has a brother and one sister and is pursuing a major in kinesiology.
