A promising right-handed option from Notre Dame who has the size and arm strength to become a dominant pitcher at the college level, according to his coaches, sophomore Cristian Torres will join teammate Kyle Richardson in the Berkshires this summer.
A middle-inning reliever for the Fighting Irish this spring, Torres has the power to develop into a true power arm for the SteepleCats while also boasting an above-average breaking ball. Torres has seen time in eight games this spring, owning three strikeouts and limiting opponents to just two hits (.154 against) in 4 1/3 innings.
Hailing from California, Torres was nominated for the 2011 Palos Verdes Peninsula High School Athlete of the Year award. The son of Juan Torres and Dora de la Rosa, Cristian has one sister, Alexandra, and is enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters at Notre Dame.
