Gillies emerged as one of Arizona State’s most trusted relievers this spring, posting a 2-2 record with a 4.81 ERA and one save in 27 appearances (one starts) as a sophomore. Gillies allowed just 20 runs (18 earned) on 28 hits with 17 walks and 28 strikeouts over 33.2 innings of work.
In 2012, Gillies made 13 appearances (10 starts) as a freshman, going 1-4 with a 5.03 ERA. Gillies allowed 24 runs (22 earned) on 46 hits with 15 walks and 29 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of work.
Prior to Arizona State, Gillies earned four varsity letters in baseball, serving as team captain in both his junior and senior seasons at San Benito High School.
