DRAFT STATUS: 2012 - Milwaukee Brewers - 26th Round (815th Overall)
A 26th Round selection by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, McCoy, a left-hander with plus breaking pitches, instead elected to attend Wake Forest where he posted an 0-1 record with a 4.97 ERA over 11 appearances (five starts). McCoy allowed just 18 runs (14 earned) on 27 hits with 20 walks and 18 strikeouts over 25.1 innings of work as a freshman this spring.
Prior to Wake Forest, McCoy was a varsity starter every year while posting a career ERA under 2.00 and a career batting average of .405 at Barnegat High School in New Jersey. McCoy was ranked in the Top 500 players nationally by Perfect Game as a senior. A standout football player as well, McCoy led his team to a conference title by throwing for 1,770 yards and 16 touchdowns as well as rushing for another six touchdowns.
