Jerry Verastegui joins the Sox for his first season in Amarillo as the first base coach. Previously, he served as the hitting coach for the El Paso Diablos. Verastegui spent four years at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas and made three all-conference teams as the starting catcher. In December after his senior year, he signed with the Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League. Verastegui was signed by the Atlanta Braves before he played a game. He played for two seasons with three teams from rookie ball to high single-A before being released. He most recently played with El Paso in 2009, before joining their coaching staff in 2010.
