A native of the “Windy City,” Esquivel makes his way to East Texas for his Pump Jacks debut this summer.
A redshirt Sophomore at Kansas State University, one of four Wildcats on the Pump Jacks’ roster, Esquivel looks to add to the depth of the pitching staff for coach Ben Taylor. A right-handed pitcher, Esquivel redshirted the 2010 season at KSU before making an immediate impact on the Wildcats’ staff. He made 19 appearances, giving up just 20 hits in 24.2 innings in 2011 with a 2.55 ERA, holding batters to a .227 average on the mound.
Last season for the Wildcats, he remained a trusted arm out of the bullpen, making 22 appearances, including 1 start, while recording 2 saves and doubling his strikeout total from the previous year while only issuing one more walk than in 2011.
Drafted out of De La Salle High School by the Chicago Cubs in the 24th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, Esquivel was a two-way star for the Meteros as a pitcher and middle infielder, tossing a 1-hit, 13-strikeout game as a senior.
