In 2012 Livingston became one of the top hitters in the Big Ten conference, serving as a major contributor to the Northwestern offense. This year he hit .233 and had a .370 on base percentage in 60 at-bats. The Kalamazoo, Michigan native was absolutely stellar in his first season in 2011 with the Wildcats. In his 46 appearances Livingston led the team with .462 on base percentage and was third on the team with a .340 batting average. The tremendous season earned him First-Team Freshmen All-Big Ten honors after the season. In high school Livingston was selected as the Michigan Gatorade player of the year in 2010 and was also named the Kalamazoo Gazette player of the year.
