Cusick had an impressive red-shirt sophomore year for the Minutemen. He started 37 games hitting .265 and drove in 9 RBI including 9 doubles and 4 triples on the year. Cusick also had success on the base paths swiping 22 bases in 28 attempts.
Before UMass Cusick played second base for four years at Gloucester High School under Coach Joe Orlando. He also helped the Fishermen win the Division I North Championship during his senior season and was named Team MVP and a NEC All-Star following his junior and senior campaigns. Cusick was also named an Eastern Mass. All-Star after his senior season finishing his career at Gloucester High with a .518 batting average with 11 home runs and 63 RBI; he also hit .536 with six home runs and 33 RBI as a senior.
