Capito had a stellar rookie season in 2012 going 6-0 for the Beach Bums with a microscopic 1.58 ERA en route to being named an East Division All-Star. In 56.2 innings he walked just 17 and struck out 67 batters for a team-leading 10.64 K/9IP. Additionally, fellow lefthanders hit just .091 against Capito (4-for-44) and walked twice while striking out 18 times.

Arguably his most memorable appearance of 2012 came in a Sunday night game at Washington where Capito entered a 2-2 game to start the seventh inning. The lefty went 4.2 innings allowing just two hits and striking out five as the Beach Bums would prevail 3-2 in 11 innings.

Capito joined the Beach Bums following his senior season in 2011 for the University of California at Santa Barbara. He tied for second on the Gauchos with 22 appearances, including five starts. Overall, the 6’2” lefty went 4-4 with a solid 3.90 ERA. He allowed just 55 hits in 64.2 innings of work. Arguably his best outing of the year came on April 4 when he tossed 5.2 innings of two-hit ball, allowing one run in a 4-1 win over San Jose State. As a junior in 2010, Capito logged a 4-6 record while appearing in 18 games, 13 of them starts for UCSB. He completed two games and recorded a shutout with a seven-hit effort against Sacramento State on April 1. He did not allow a runner past second base in the game and earned Big West Co-Pitcher of the Week honors for his efforts.
