Ronny Morla is a Chandler, Arizona, native who begins his first season with the Diablos. The 6-4, 180 lbs right-hander was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in 2007 and played for two seasons in 2006 and 2007 with the DSL Athletics, a Dominican Summer League affiliate of the A’s. He was called up in 2007 to Rookie Ball with the AZL Athletics of the Arizona League in 2007 and to the Low-A Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League in 2008 and 2009. He was signed to the Chicago Cubs and played for the Class A affiliate, Peoria Chiefs, of the Midwest League in 2010. In 2011, he was selected by the New York Mets in the Triple-A phase of the Rule V draft and competed for the Class A Savannah Sand Gnats of the South Atlantic League and the High-A St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League in 2011 where he compiled a record of 3-5 with a 4.81 ERA in 58.0 innings pitched in 43 games in relief.
