Gonzalez provides the Revs with steady defense to help anchor the infield, as well as a solid bat in the lineup. The switch-hitter has spent parts of five seasons in the Atlantic League, suiting up for Lancaster from 2005-2008, before returning to the circuit with the Road Warriors last season.
Gonzalez is a career .294 hitter in the Atlantic League, and approached that mark with a solid .289 average a year ago. He has also mashed 46 home runs in the Atlantic League, including a career-best 16 with Lancaster in 2007. Defensively, Gonzalez topped all Atlantic League shortstops with his .975 fielding percentage last season. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native broke into professional baseball as a Philadelphia Phillies prospect, selected in the fourth round of the 2000 draft out of Florida Air Academy. He has also played in the Chicago Cubs organization.
