Alan DeRatt returns for his third season in a Sioux Falls uniform, after converting a team-best 22 save opportunities in 2013. His save total was fourth best in the American Association last season and fourth most in a single season in Canaries history. The Cary, North Carolina native appeared in 41 games last season, striking out 39 batters in 39 1/3 innings. In two seasons with the organization, DeRatt has amassed a 4.76 ERA and 92 strikeouts over 128 2/3 innings.
DeRatt spent four years in the Colorado Rockies system after being selected in the 17th round of the 2008 draft. In 2011, he played at three levels, including his hometown team and Class A affiliate, the Asheville Tourists. He pitched collegiately at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, where he was the 2008 Big South Conference Pitcher of the Year.
