Markakis had a stand out sophomore campaign for the St. Joe’s Monks hitting .308 and driving in 17 runs. He played in 37 games starting each one while racking up 44 total bases and slugging .411. St. Joe’s College also were GNAC Champions in 2012. He played high school baseball for Pat Yanchus at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, helping the team to the Eastern Massachusetts finals his junior and senior seasons. He also played in the Bay State Games, at the Lynn Invitational, and for the Wakefield American Legion team. Markakis (mar-CAH-kiss) is the cousin of Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis.
