Winger, a solid defensive first baseman who has made just four errors in 80 career games at Michigan, made an impact with his bat as a sophomore this spring, hitting .296 (58-for-196) with 22 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, four home runs and 30 RBI in 55 games (52 starts).
Winger played in 25 games as a freshman starting 19 games at first base and at designated hitter. Winger batted .294 (20-for-68) with nine runs scored, three doubles and five RBI. Winger was awarded the Athletic Department’s Academic Achievement Award in 2011.
Winger’s father, Douglas, ran track at Yale, while his sister, Carly, played softball at Virginia. Another sister, Molly, has committed to play volleyball at Columbia.
