The other of two Wolverines to join the Beetles this summer, Tyler Mills has less experience than his Michigan counterpart and therefore has plenty to prove in his first season as a Beetle. The 6’2” freshman from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan brings plenty of awards with him from a stellar high school career. In 2008, Mills was named Michigan High School Athletic Association Co-Mr. Baseball. He was also the state’s Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year, and Louisville Slugger Player of the Year. Besides hitting .426 with 30 RBI, Mills went 6-1 on the hill, posting a 1.50 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 71 innings. Mills is no stranger to championships either. In 2007, the then junior led his team to a state title, becoming the winning pitcher in the championship game. However, because of his lack of playing time this spring, coupled with an expected late arrival, look for Mills to begin his Beetles career out of the bullpen, with the chance of making the rotation in the second half of the season.
