Arik had a rough year for Marshall in 2009, but still managed to ring up 36 batters in 38.1 innings and hold his walks allowed to 17. Last season he served as Marshall’s closer and recorded a single-season record eight saves and did not allow a run from March 1st until the 16th in 2008. In high school he picked up 74 strikeouts with an ERA of only 1.30 for Hurricane High School in his home town and was named the West Virginia State Player of the Year as a senior. As a junior in 2006 he helped lead the team to a state championship. He has five siblings, and his brother, AJ, also attends Marshall.
