A 37th round selection by the Colorado Rockies out of Pace Academy in Georgia, Thomas decided to stay in-state and enroll at Georgia Tech in order to improve his draft stock.
He arrives in Wareham this summer after improving his value that much more last summer in the Florida Collegiate Summer League, where he was named the No. 1 Pro Prospect in the league after playing for New York Mets World Series-winning manager Davey Johnson.
Following up on his stellar summer last year, Thomas was off to a great start this past spring as a sophomore at Georgia Tech, hitting .307 in his opening 41 games. He knocked seven doubles, one triple, two homers, and 20 RBI.
As a freshman for the Yellow Jackets last year, he hit .262 with four doubles, three triples, and 13 RBI in 32 games.
Thomas played varsity basketball as well.
He intends to major in management at Georgia Tech.
