An everyday starter in his freshman campaign at Georgia Tech this spring, Hyde passed up the allure of the minor leagues after the Toronto Blue Jays selected him in the 44th round of the MLB Amateur Draft last year.
In his opening 41 game for the Yellow Jackets this season, Hyde hit .274 with seven doubles, one triple, three homers and 32 RBI.
At Calhoun High School in Georgia, Hyde was a dominant player, earning All-State honors while leading Calhoun to a state championship his senior season. That year, he hit .464 with 16 homers and 57 RBI. This came after a junior season in which he hit .547 with 20 homers and 67 RBI. Perfect Game pegged him the 10th-best recruit in Georgia and one of the top 100 in the nation upon graduation. In the summer, he played for the East Cobb Yankees.
Also a three-year varsity basketball standout, Hyde was named All-Area as a senior.
Hyde enjoys juggling and his father, Lamar, started one of the first carpet companies in Saudi Arabia.
He intends to major in management at Georgia Tech.
